What would I be able to do if my neighbor trapped my cat and abandoned it somewhere unknown?

It is illegal to abandon an animal. It is also illegal to steal an animal. People who suspect that an animal was stolen and/or abandoned should gather evidence of the theft and abandonment and should contact the police, animal control, local SPCA (society for the prevention of cruelty to animals), and humane society. People who suspect that their animal was stolen and abandoned should also make efforts to locate the animal, such as immediately visiting local shelters, placing flyers near where the animal went missing, posting lost animal information on social media, and contacting the police and local humane organizations. They sometimes keep records of lost and found animals. If your cat is located, consider keeping him/her indoors where he/she will be safer.
